Class Notes

Romans 10:1-8

Vs. 1,  Pray for a “lost” Israel.

Vs. 2,3, “Lost,” because they have “zeal” without  “knowledge.”

Vs. 4,  Christ is the “end of the law of righteousness” to  “EVERYONE” who believes.

Vs. 5-8, Righteousness of faith is within everybody’s reach.

  • Quoting Deuteronomy 30:11-14.

  • The word was sent from Heaven.

  • The word is not in the “abyss.”

The word is right here, right now, in the  finished work of Jesus Christ!

Calling on the name of the Lord!

Romans 10:9-13

Contrast:

Romans 10:9...Confess and Believe.

Acts 2:38…Repent and be Baptized.

Paul and Peter have both referenced Joel 2:32 concerning ALL who call upon the name of the Lord.  [Acts 2:21]

Romans 10:9 & Acts 2:38

  • Both are talking about “calling on the name of Lord.”

  • They are not in conflict with each other.

  • Remember, if your interpretation of one passage  “conflicts” with your interpretation of another passage,  you have mis-interpreted one or both passages.

Jew and Gentile, on the same footing:

Romans 10:14-21

  • Vs. 15, Gospel to be preached, Is. 52:7, Neh. 1:15

  • Vs. 16, Not all believed, Is. 53:1

  • Vs. 17, How faith comes,  (by hearing, vs. 14)

  • Vs. 18, Word gone to the whole world, Ps. 19:4.

  • Vs. 19, Israel was told the gospel would go to others, Deut. 32:21.

  • Vs. 20, Israel was told Gentiles would find the Lord, Is. 65:2.

  • Vs. 21, God reaches out to disobedient and  contrary people, Jew or Gentile, Is. 65:2.
