Sermon Notes
The Truth and Nothing but the Truth
Exodus 20:16
Lying is wrong:
Even if others are doing it
Even if you benefit from it
Even if you don’t get caught
Even if others are doing worse
Four Lies that Show Up in Our Lives:
The Dirty Dog Lie – Outright Lie
The Distorted Lie – Stretching the Truth
The Deceptive Lie – Half Truth
The Dumb Lie – Silent Lie
Declaring War on Lying:
Be Ruthless with Yourself (I Cor. 9:27)
Invite Accountability
Remember What Lying Does to God
Questions to Consider:
When was the last time I told a lie—of any kind—and did I justify it or confess it?
Am I more concerned with protecting my image or honoring God with my integrity?
Who in my life has permission to call me out when I’m not being truthful— and do I actually listen when they do?
How does my dishonesty—no matter how small—affect my relationship with God, and do I care enough to change?
