To Receive Grace Requires Graciousness
Parable:
Earthly story with heavenly meaning.
A story laid down beside a spiritual truth.
Not an allegory.
A cross generational story teaching spiritual truth to each generation.
Why would Jesus use Parables?
Matthew 13:10-16
Because people tire of truth and stop seeing it.
Seekers of truth see it, others do not.
Generally, parables are not offensive.
Kingdom talk in Matthew 18:
Vs. 1-5, “unless converted and become like little children”
Vs. 6-10, “Whoever causes one of the little ones to sin…”
Vs. 11-14, “One sheep” is worth seeking.
Vs. 15-20, “If your brother sins against you,” save the relationship if at all possible.
Vs. 21-22, Peter asks, “How many times?”
Vs. 23-35, “The kingdom of heaven is like,” a forgiving king and forgiving members within the kingdom.
The forgiven must forgive!
Matthew 18:23-35
Large debt: 10,000 talents, 750,000 lbs. = 21 fully loaded semis.
Small debt: 100 denarii, small weight = pocket change.
God forgives much! We forgive little!
We are asked to be vulnerable!
My forgiveness is related to my forgiving others!
Maintaining “In-Christ” relationships is Kingdom living!
