“…removal from the Promised land is stated as one of  the penalties of the repudiation of God’s  Covenant….following the Babylonian captivity some  Jews did return……..they were protected against  annihilation by God’s providence until the coming of  Christ…"



Deuteronomy 29:14-29

  • This covenant for you and coming generations.

  • What other nations might say when the anger of the Lord  is aroused against His people?

  • They forsook the covenant  made with the Lord.

Deuteronomy 30:1-20

  • The Lord will bring you back from captivity, having  compassion on you.

  • The Lord will “circumcise your heart” to “love the Lord  with all your heart.”

  • These commandments are “very near,” “in your mouth,”  and “in your heart that you might do it.”

  • Quoted in Romans 10:6-8.

  • I have set before you life and death , blessing  and curse , Choose life!


Deuteronomy 7:1-12 

“………..Make no treaty mercy . vs3 Do not intermarry  people holy  with them, and show them  no  with them…….. vs6 For you are  a  to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has  chosen you  out of all the peoples on the face of the earth  to be his people, his treasured possession …….. vs7 The LORD did not set his affection on you and choose  you because you were more numerous  than other  peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples LORD loved you  ancestors  and  …..the  kept the oath he swore to your  that he brought you out with a mighty hand  and redeemed you from the land of slavery……. He is the faithful God , keeping his covenant of love to  a thousand generations……”



The Conquest of the Land

Judges 2:1-4 Realizing their sins, the people  wept.

Judges 2:10-15  A generation who did not  know the Lord, their sins enumerated, “the  hand of the Lord was against them….”

Judges 2:16-23  The Lord raised up judges.
